We were joined on 19th March by 38 Walking Netballers at Penzance Leisure Centre for our Sunday Fun-day! Teams came from Lanivet, Penzance, Penryn as well as a ‘Stars’ team, made up of players from St Agnes, St Just, and Helston Walking Netball groups, as well as a player who’s just moved to Cornwall (what a good way to meet other players and find a group to join!).
In a slight change to a usual Walking Netball tournament, we had some skills practices and games before the tournament began. A really good complementary activity to netball, Pilates can help with core strength, balance and back pain, so we started with a Pilates-based warm-up, run by Lou of Chief Pilates, who also did the cool-down at the end.
We focused on fun and inclusivity, but of course when it came to the tournament, the competitive spirit shone through! There was some really close scores and excellent game play throughout the matches, and a big well done to Stars who won the tournament.
We also awarded the following prizes:
-Shooter of the day: Ali from Helston
-Centre court player of the day: Shona from Penryn
-Defender of the day: Gemma from Penzance
-Umpire’s choice: Janis from Penryn
-Spirit of the day: Vicki from Lanivet
A big thank you to umpires Rosie and Katie, Lou from Chief Pilates, and Maia and Mel for their help with scoring and lots more! We couldn’t have done it without you. Also thanks to Gorran & Tregony WN, who contributed towards hosting the festival, and to Tesco for donating some prizes.
Finally, a big thank you and well done to everyone to turned up to spend their Sunday morning with us. There was a brilliant vibe all morning, and as Kathryn from Lanivet Panda-Strollers said: “It's beginning to feel like a real Walking Netball family here in Cornwall.”
