The Netball Youth Camp held at Callywith College in February half term was a great success, with smiles and cheers aplenty throughout the day!
Twenty-seven young players aged between 10 and 14 joined us from all over the county, and took part in a series of fun games, skills practices and learning sessions led by Devon NDO and coach Jenny Kelly, and assisted by Cornwall NDO and coach Lucy Lawrence. Wendy Harris, a Cornish umpire and member of Helston Netball Club also assisted on the day and was a great help, bringing a lovely positive energy.
"As a coaching team, we were so impressed with the girls who attended," says Lucy. "It wasn't just the varying skills that were on offer, but also their willingness to learn and take the coaching points into a game scenario. Each player improved throughout the day, but what really made the day for us was their enthusiasm and kindness towards each other. There was lots of helping each other out and encouragement, and cheers for goals scored!"
The tournament part of the day was won by Oceans, with Green Arrows hot on their heels. Blueberries and Purple Cactus also showed off some brilliant skills and each game was closely contested! A big well done to the four 'Players of the Day': Amelie, Ava, Emly and Olive, and to all the girls who took part.
The feedback received from parents so far has been lovely to hear:
"She came out saying she’d had a lovely day and met new friends!"
"She really enjoyed it and can't wait for the next one!"
"She thoroughly enjoyed herself! Thank you for organising such a fun day!"
